The Lott and TAFE

The Lott has taken on school-based apprentice, Chris Bitar. Chris will go to TAFE on Monday, school the remainder of the week and work one day on the weekend at The Lott.

He will finish year 11 and 12 while completing his first year of a commercial cookery certificate III – which in the old terms is an apprentice chef.

Owner of The Lott, Matt Dowdney, said he was pleased to be able to support a viable alternative to someone going to university.

“I feel learning a trade is just as important as going to university,” he said.

PD Murphy’s and TAFE

Six TAFE trainees are working for Leo Percy, one in the newsagency and five in PD Murphy’s.

The trainees range in age from juniors to mature age employees.

This provides them with on the job training, as well as attending TAFE and studying hospitality and retail, which is a nationally recognised qualification.

They work various hours and shifts and range from 20 to 38 hours per week.

“Mr Percy is not only gaining benefits for his business but also looking after his employees. “Cooma TAFE teacher David Lindsay said.
