Snowy Mountains business icon, Kevin Blyton, has died following a cardiac arrest on Sunday.
Mr Blyton is the founder and owner of the Blyton Group – a significant portfolio including the Capital Radio Network, Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snow Resorts, Snowy Mountains Airport and the Kosciuszko Chalet Hotel.
Mr Blyton is being remembered for his contributions to thr commercial radio industry, particularly regional broadcasting, and his investment into the Snowy Mountains region as the owner of two key snow resorts and the region’s only airport.
The Capital Radio Network (Snow FM, XLFM Snowy Mountains, 2CC Canberra amongst other stations) announced Mr Blyton’s passing on Monday.
Mr Blyton purchased his first station in 1978 when he took on 2XL. His Capital Radio Network empire now includes stations in Goulburn, Perth, Gippsland and a number of digital music stations.
His contribution to the industry was recognised in 2013 when he was inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame.
Mr Blyton’s passion for radio extended into hospitality and tourism when he purchased Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snow Resorts.
In recent years, Mr Blyton oversaw the rebuild the of the Selwyn Snow Resort after it was destroyed in the Black Summer bushfires of 2020.
The resort was reopened in July 2023. At the time Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, commended Mr Blyton on his resilience, strength and determination.
Mr Blyton also owns Magic Mountain fun park in Merimbula, and the Jindabyne Cinema.
