Snowy Monaro Regional Council in conjunction with Jindabyne’s Snowy Mountains Community Association (SMCA) is set to host this year’s annual Jindabyne Australia Day awards ceremony and community day on Monday 26 January, at the JJ Connors Oval.
Celebrating local community members and their commitment and dedication to their community the day is aimed at fostering community spirit.
The SMCA look forward to their first year hosting the event with former award recipient, Matt Trippett, as the master of ceremonies for the awards.
Snowy Monaro Regional Mayor, Chris Hanna, will be in attendance alongside this year’s Australia Day ambassador Mr George Ellis acknowledging the contributions of these vital members of the Jindabyne community.
The awards ceremony will commence at 9:30am and will last approximately one hour, following the awards is the Community Day and will feature a variety of fun-filled activities for families, including traditional games such as tug-of-war, sack races, one-legged races and more.
“We want to encourage participation from all ages, making it a memorable day for families in our region,” SMCA member, John McLoughlin, said.
“We will also be presenting the organisations that are recipients of my Christmas Light display fundraising event with their cheques after the awards ceremony.”
In addition to the games, attendees can look forward to a sausage sizzle and refreshing cold drinks, donated by the SMCA committee with the option to bring along their own refreshments..
“While we will have a barbecue, we encourage families to bring their own refreshments to enjoy on the oval,” Mr McLoughlin said.
“It’s all about creating a relaxed and enjoyable environment for everyone.”
