A man has died following a crash on the Monaro Highway near Cooma on Friday, 7 November.
A car and truck collided at Bunyan, about 17km north of Cooma at about 2pm. On arrival, emergency services found the truck carrying hay was on fire.
The driver of the car was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, they died at the scene.
The male driver of the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to Cooma Base Hospital for mandatory testing.
Fire and Resuce NSW crews worked to extinguish the truck fire. NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews from across the district battled a fast-moving grassfire, east of the Monaro Highway.
The grassfire is now under control and has burnt 115 hectares.
A NSW RFS helicopter supported crews on the ground.
The crash closed the Monaro Highway for about eight hours. An investigation into the cause of the crash has commenced.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
