Snowy Monaro residents and community leaders have expressed their shock and delivered messages of support following the Bondi Beach terror attack.

At the time this masthead went to print, 15 victims had been confirmed dead in the attack targeting the Jewish community celebrating the first day of Hanukkah.

Snowy Monaro Mayor, Cr Chris Hanna, passed on his condolences and thoughts on behalf of Snowy Monaro Regional Council to the Waverley Council community.

“Following the tragic events in Bondi, we are heartbroken by the senseless loss of life,” Cr Hanna said.

“Our thoughts are with the local community, NSW and all Australians during this devastating time.

“Snowy Monaro Regional Council extends its love, prayers and sincere condolences to Waverley Council and the entire community.”

Member for Monaro, Steve Whan, said he is distressed by the anti-semitic attack.

“Like all decent people I am shocked and distressed by the evil anti semitic murders at Bondi. There is no place for this type of hate, violence and terrorism in our country,” Mr Whan said.

“This evil attack on a peaceful, loving, Jewish celebration is the opposite of every value we hold dear.

“My thoughts and sympathy are with all the people impacted, their loved ones and friends and every member of the Jewish community who is suffering such anguish.”

There is a small Jewish community in the Snowy Monaro. Member for Eden-Monaro, Kristy McBain, said the nation stands with all Jewish people.

“We stand with you tonight and every night. This is not who we are as a nation,” Ms McBain said on Sunday night, following the attack.

“My thoughts are with those impacted and their loved ones. I’m also thinking of our brave emergency service workers and ordinary Australians who will also feel this deeply.”
