National charity Motherland has appointed former politician and rural mother, Bronnie Taylor, as its new chair, succeeding Julia Spicer OAM, who has led the board for the past three years.
Motherland Founder and CEO, Stephanie Trethewey, thanked Ms Spicer for her contribution and leadership during a period of significant growth for the charity.
“Julia has played an instrumental role in guiding Motherland through a transformative chapter, helping us expand our impact and cement our place as a leading voice for rural mums,” Ms Trethewey said.
“We’re so grateful for her advocacy and unwavering belief in our mission.”
Ms Taylor is a former oncology nurse, former NSW Minister for Women, Regional Health and Mental Health, and former deputy leader of the NSW Nationals. She joined the Motherland board as a non-executive director earlier this year, and said it was an honour to step into the position of chair.
“Motherland is doing vital work to reduce the isolation so many rural mothers experience, and to shine a light on their mental health and wellbeing,” Ms Taylor said.
“I’m honoured to chair this organisation and work with Steph and the board to ensure every rural mum has the support, connection and visibility she deserves.”
Motherland is a national charity that reduces isolation and improves mental health outcomes for rural mothers across Australia through its tailored programs, platforms, events and advocacy.
What started as a podcast in 2019 on Ms Tretheweys’ kitchen table on her farm has grown into a national movement with thousands of rural mothers now part of the Motherland community.
“Bronnie has so much passion for Motherland and I’m thrilled to have her part of the team. She brings an extraordinary blend of strategic and leadership experience alongside her health expertise and a deep understanding of rural communities,” Ms Trethewey said.
Mrs Taylor has stepped into the Chair role as part of Motherland’s growth and succession planning, with Ms Spicer continuing her contribution on the board as a non-executive director.
