Community spirit from young Cooma scouts

The 1st Cooma Scouts have cashed in on all the empty bottles and cans collected from the Cooma Races. The scouts and leaders rolled up their sleeves on a very hot and windy day at the races to collect recyclable cans and bottles as part of their Return & Earn fundraising efforts. $464.60 was made from the can collection at the races. “That’s a whopping 4646 cans that we put through the earn and return machine,” chair 1st Cooma Scouts, Rebecca Shepherd, said. “Not only is our youth helping the environment, but they’re also supporting our community by keeping the event clean and recycling responsibly. “A huge thank you to everyone who handed over their cans and bottles - every little bit helps,” she said. 1st Cooma Scouts also thank the community in general for all the can and bottle donations towards 1st Cooma Scouts Return & Earn funds. “All money raised will primarily go towards the cooling and heating of the scout hall, as well as hall maintenance. “Every little bit makes a big difference for our hall and programs,” Mrs Shepard said. “We’re still seeking more donations, so if you’d like to help, please keep us in mind next time you recycle.”
