There is a Latin dancing movement taking place in Cooma with locals encouraged to put their best foot forward and join monthly community Latin dance nights.

Fiesta Fridays will launch this Friday 4 September, bringing together dancers of all experiences for a night of fun, encouragement and movement.

Fiesta Fridays are brought to you by Aura and Elizabeth of the popular Zea Zumba in Cooma, and Sarah Atkinson – life coach/mentor at Inner Clarity Coaching and salsa dance enthusiasts. The event is designed for all ages and abilities, including those who have never danced before.

For Aura and Elizabeth, Latin dancing is more than a hobby, it’s a way of life. Since moving to Cooma a number of years ago to support their husbands’ work on Snowy 2.0, the duo missed a vital part of their South American culture.

To help stay connected to their culture and to showcase to Cooma locals why Latin dancing is good for the soul, they launched Zea Zumba classes in Cooma. Their passion for dance quickly won over many locals who enjoy the classes.

“In our culture, dancing is such a big part of our lives,” Elizabeth said.

“When we came to Cooma, we missed dancing, but decided to do something about it by starting Zea Zumba and now Fiesta Fridays with Sarah.”

Sarah and her husband, Jack, have become fans of salsa dancing. They attend social dances in Canberra and are now looking forward to starting social nights in Cooma.

Sarah, Aura and Elizabeth met through the Cooma Multicultural Centre and have struck a friendship around their shared passion for dancing.

“We are really excited to start Fiesta Fridays, the event is designed for everyone,” Sarah said.

“Salsa dancing is fun, there is a lot of energy to it, and anyone can do it.”

Fiesta Fridays will be held at the Monaro Air Rifle Club, from 6pm to 9pm. The night costs $25 and includes a beginner-friendly salsa workshop to help you learn some simple steps before the social dancing begins.

“You do not need a partner, special dance shoes or any previous experience. Just come as you are and be ready to have fun,” Sarah said.

“You can join in, watch, take a break or dance at your own pace. Experienced dancers are also welcome and encouraged to help us create a friendly and supportive atmosphere for newcomers.”

Tickets are available via the QR code or at the door on the night. The bar will be open throughout the evening, canteen style snack will be available for purchase. The event is family-friendly and you can bring your own food along too.

Whether you come to dance, meet new people, enjoy the music or try something different, you will be warmly welcomed. Be sure to follow their socials to keep up to date with future monthly events via Instagram @fiesta.friday.cooma
