A driver has died in a two-vehicle crash near Nimmitabel on Wednesday afternoon.

About 3pm Wednesday 2 September, emergency services were called to the Monaro Highway, Nimmitabel, about five kilometres north of Nimmitabel following reports of a crash.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended and found a car and a truck had collided, with the crash causing a large fire.

The driver of the car died at the scene. They are yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced.

As of 6.30am Thursday 3 September, the Transport Management Centre reports the Monaro Highway remains closed as works crews repair a section of road damaged in the fire.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
