SNOWY Monaro landowners have less than a month left to register for a trial designed to enhance rural firefighting capabilities.
A collaboration between Transport for NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), the trial enables the use of private farm fire fighting vehicles (FFFVs) without registration, provided they meet specific eligibility criteria.
Vehicles must have fire-fighting equipment permanently attached, operate within a 100km radius of the storage address, and be maintained in a safe operating condition, a spokesperson for NSW RFS said.
"These measures ensure that while not registered, these vehicles are adequately equipped to assist in emergency situations and contribute effectively to firefighting efforts," the spokesperson said.
"To nominate a farm fire fighting vehicle for the trial, submit the completed Farm Fire Fighting Vehicle nomination form and include two photographs.
"One photograph should be taken from the front, which includes the driver’s side of the vehicle and one from the rear, which includes the passenger side of the vehicle."
The Farm Fire Fighting Vehicle trial will end on 31 March 2024.
Completed nomination forms should be sent to fffv@transport.nsw.gov.au.
A spokesperson for NSW RFS said you will receive an acknowledgement of submission via email.
"A copy of this form and your acknowledgement must be produced to Police or authorised officers upon request," the spokesperson said.
