Snowy Mountains Christian School (SMCS) recently farewelled the school’s longest serving principal, Ella Meyer.
Mrs Meyer arrived at the school in 2017 when the school was in great need and gradually brought a sense of calm to the school.
SMCS board chair, Dr David Learoyd, mentioned at the special farewell for Mrs Meyer on 21 November that she conveyed a sense of safety, assurance and direction.
Mrs Meyer always had a heart for other people and for God, this was shown in her care for the children, the families, the staff and the board at SMCS.
As principal of a small rural school, Mrs Meyer worked through different responsibilities including: shaping curriculum with a biblical world view, nurturing the SMCS community, managing conflicts, legal responsibilities, administrative tasks, budget and expenditure, policies and procedures, child safety, security, accountability to state and federal departments of education, to the board and Cooma Baptist Church.
Dr Learoyd said Mrs Meyer has done an amazing job.
“I never heard her talk about how much work she had to do, but she always acknowledged and appreciated what her staff and others were doing,” he said at Mrs Meyer’s special farewell on 21 November.
Mrs Meyer has been teaching for more than 35 years.
Moving from Wagga Wagga with her husband, Dr Ken Meyer, Mrs Meyer settled into Jindabyne. She committed to serving the families of the Snowy Monaro that all might know the love of Jesus.
Mrs Meyer mentioned in her farewell speech that she is confident in the future of the SMCS to continue its purpose of providing the opportunity of a Christian Education to all families on the Monaro.
SMCS is sad she is leaving but also excited for her as she heads into retirement and is able to spend more time with her husband and enjoy her hobbies.
“We are also thankful to God for Mrs Meyer and for her prayerful heart, her compassionate nurturing care and commitment to Christian education,” a spokesperson said.
