The Bombala High Heelers are again Group 16 league-tag premiers after a dominant grand final performance.

The High Heelers sealed a memorable season with a 22-6 triumph over Bega at the Bega recreation ground, as hundreds of Bombala locals cheered the team to victory.

Maree Coates delivered an inspired effort, crossing for two tries in a player of the match performance. There wasn’t a weak link in the Bombala side with each player taking to the field contributing to the premiership win.

A strong first half setup the win, with Coates scoring her two tries and converting both to take the side to a 12-0 lead at half time.

Bega hit back straight after the break but true-to-form, Bombala maintained their composure to score a third try through captain, Patrice Clear. With a 16-6 lead as the match entered the final five minutes, a try to Tanner Hurley secured the 2026 premiership.

Clear praised her side and the Bombala community in her winning captain’s speech at the match presentation.

“To our Bombala community for getting behind us, thank you. Have a look at the support here today, we don’t do this on our own,” Clear said.

“To our support crew, from the bottom of our heart thank you for always being behind us. Thanks to Perko (coach Paul Perkins) for taking coaching to the next level, there’s a real professional feel in what we do.

“Our side has a bunch of girls and women ranging in ages. This side is the epitome of culture, this is why you work so hard for something.”

The Cooma Stallions reserve grade side faced different fortunes in its grand final appearance. Coming up against a strong Merimbula-Pambula outfit, the Stallions went into half time trailing 24-0.

A dropped ball in the opening 20 minutes saw the side spend much of the first half defending its line.

In the second stanza, there was some hope when second-rower, Tyrell Bartlett, scored within the first play. Further tries went to fullback, Declan Gregory, and winger Malcolm Pota. Merimbula-Pambula won 32-16.
