Beanies were required as a blustery, cold south-westerly wind greeted Coolamatong golfers for Sunday’s stroke and gold monthly medal round.
As much as conditions were testing, there were many respectable scores, with several players bettering or equalling their handicap.
The best round of the day went to Michael Mesley with 69 nett, shooting 80 off his 11 handicap. Runner-up on countback was Gregg Quinn with 70, from Adam Newbold, who placed third.
Ross Thompson had the best score in B Grade with a 72 nett, and Karen Caban finished with 74 in C grade.
The Sunday ball comp ran down to 74 nett, including Steve Cuff 71, Alan Butterworth 72, Adam Foster 73, Ewan Murdoch 73, Karen Caban 74, Ben Hearn 74, Michelle White 75, Glen Staker 74 and Kylie Woodcock 75.
The near pins for men were Chris Brown on eight, Alan Butterworth on 15 and Josh Crawford on 17. The ladies’ near pins were won by Carolyn Major on eight and Michelle White on 17.
From the gold medal qualifiers, Gregg Quinn is best on 70 nett for the men and Michelle White and Kylie Woodcock on 75 for the ladies, with the final 18 holes of the 36 to be played next Sunday.
Last Wednesday, golfers played a par competition with the ladies clean sweeping the first two positions, with Michelle White winning on plus four and Janeece Peters in runner-up on plus two.
The ball comp included Carolyn Major and Jan O’Halloran on square, Richard Hendriks, Glen Staker and Jenny Earney all on minus one.
The near pins were Mick Justen on 15 and Bob Haigh 17 for the men, and Jan O’Halloran on three, and Karen Caban on eight and 17 for the ladies.
