The Cooma Athletics Club has started its season in style with growing numbers and some outstanding performances.

During competition on Saturday, 8 November, there were more than a dozen personal bests recorded and three records broken.

In the under six boys vortex, Hugo Bicknell threw 12.96 metres to set a new record. Bailey Russell registered a 29.23m throw in the discus to break the under 11 boys’ record.

Arabella Andrews broke the under 15 girls’ javelin record with a 29.45m effort, the third record to fall on a busy Saturday at the Cooma Athletics Club.

Personal bests were achieved in the under six girls long jump by Ella Palinkas with a 1.52m effort and Madeline Claughton in the shot put, finished on 2.57m.

Four personal bests were recorded in the under sevens: Everly Dawson in the girls long jump, 2.01m; Lily Fitzgerald in the girls discus with 7.36m; Isaac Robinson in the long jump registered 1.86m; and Louis Exter in shot put with a 4.47m put.

The sole personal best in the under eight category went to Alfie McCann in the boys discus. Alfie threw 6.98m.

Layla Bicknell in the under nine girls discus recorded a 8.37m effort for her personal best. In the under 10 girls shot put, Olivia MacPherson put 2.58m.

In the under 10 boys long jump, Bryce O’Reilly’s new mark to beat is now 3.08m. Myles Bartlett in the under 11 boys triple jump finished with his best effort of 5.80m.

Rachael Davis threw a personal best in the discus with 23.30m in the under 11s.

In the under 14s, Tahlia Jamieson recorded a 9.08m effort in triple jump and Hunter Fitzgerald finished with 9.48m in shot put.
