Cooma Swim Club’s Sunday morning coaching series kicked off last week at Berridale pool, with a strong turnout from new and returning members.

The swim club was successful in gaining funding through the ClubGRANTS program, enabling them to engage Cooma swim coaches, Bob and Lorraine Alford, and Fiona McCoy from Pool Play Aus to conduct these sessions.

Swim club secretary, Leah Redden, said Cooma’s younger swimmers were pleased to be back in the water and improving their techniques.

“With the delayed opening of the Cooma pool, our members haven’t been able to participate in their usual weekly race nights,” Leah said.

“The Sunday morning coaching series is helping to get local kids back in the pool and prepared for their respective school swimming carnivals being held in the first few weeks of term one.”

Focusing on stroke correction, improving reaction times, race starts, turns, and finishes, as well as building endurance and fitness, the 90 minute sessions are running throughout the school holidays, and into term one.

“Thanks to the funding from ClubGRANTS, Cooma Swim Club members are able to access these coaching sessions as part of their membership, whilst non-members are also welcome to attend at a discounted rate,” Leah said.

Leah said it has been a positive experience for the kids to have these training sessions, with children from the Berridale area joining in also.
