The Jindabyne Miss Piggies have claimed their second straight premiership in another enthralling contest against the Cooma Devils Angels.

The Miss Piggies defended their line for the final few minutes to claim a 31-29 victory.

For the second year in a row, the Miss Piggies and Devils Angels met in the grand final of the ACT/Monaro women’s 10s competition.

Easily the two best sides all season, the teams produced arguably the contest of the year in front of hundreds of local supporters who made the trip to Bungendore.

The match was played at a high speed as the teams traded tries. Both sides crossed the line five times.

Tilhaney Grainger was awarded player of the match for her efforts. Grainger scored two tries in the win.

Miss Piggies coach, Noel Harper, praised his side’s defensive efforts and commended Cooma on reaching the grand final.

“Our defence was to a high standard. The two best sides all season were here, Cooma is a very good side,” Harper said.

“There were a lot of great efforts today, I really thought Eden Klemm played very well, as did Emily Quodling for Cooma.”

For the Miss Piggies tries were scored by: Klemm with two, Grainger a double and a try to Andrea Marshall. For the Devils Angels, tries went to Kim Wilson with two while Mischa Carnell, Felicity Tame and Jessica Norris all crossed for a try.

The Miss Piggies crossed for the opening try of the match when Klemm burst through the middle. It didn’t take long before Cooma had its first points, when Wilson showed her class to support a half break by Carnell, receive the offload and score.

Cooma was next to score and opened up a 10-7 lead before the Miss Piggie regained the advantage, 12-10, when Grainger scored straight off the kick off.

Grainger’s second try took the Miss Piggies lead to 17-10. A fourth try came the Miss Piggies’ way, extending their lead to 24-10.

The Devils Angels crossed right on half time to reduce the lead to seven points.

The second half was a tough affair. When the Devils Angels scored through Carnell, the scores were locked at 24-all.

Up stepped Klemm who produced the play of the game. She beat five defenders close to the line before converting her own try to take the lead to 31-24.

WIlson scored to take the Devils Angels within two points. A valiant push near the end of the game couldn’t produce a winner for Cooma with the Miss Piggies holding on to win their second title.
