The Monaro Equestrian Association (MEA) awards night and annual general meeting has recognised the club’s top riders and volunteers for another year of hard work.

MEA members and friends enjoyed an evening without their horses at the Berridale Inn, celebrating the activities of the club and its members over the last 12 months.

Association vice president, Kim Kleven, delivered the president’s report which resonated with members and guests. Kim delivered a comprehensive summary of the MEA’s monthly events.

During the last year, the MEA ran dressage competitions, showjumping and dressage clinics, as well as several trail rides through Pambula Beach, Canberra Arboretum and a number locally.

President, Sue West, said in her report, the club is calling for new members to help maintain its strength. She encouraged all members to bring their horse-riding friends to MEA events.

The meeting saw no change to the executive but some new faces joined the general committee. The club welcomed Sophie Morris, Lisa Stuart and Colleen Richmond. Outgoing committee member, Sally McCoullough, was thanked for her efforts.

The MEA’s perpetual trophies were awarded following the meeting and dinner. One of the most prized awards is the club person of the year. This year, the honour went to Colleen and Phil Richmond.

Colleen and Phil have made effort to attend MEA events and help with barbecues, mowing and actively promoting the club.

Another joint award went to 10-year-old Annie Morris and 11-year-old Eloise Oliver. After an exciting tally of points, the sisters jointly won the junior overall champion title.

Although the MEA is an adult riding club, junior riders are welcome to attend MEA events, if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The next MEA event is a jump club day, Sunday 27 September, at the MEA’s home grounds at O’Brien Reserve, Berridale.
