Cooma lawn bowlers have played two rounds of the district pennants on the past two Sundays.
On February 11, Cooma travelled to Tura Beach to contest the first round. With three teams and four in a team, Cooma players managed to win two matches to one, yet still came home 'without the chocolates.
Daphne Buckley, Mick Mayhew, Paul Connell and John Schoon won a tight game 23-21
Peter Marciano, Max butler, Don Menchin and Mark Buckley won 21-16 with Mark Buckley rolling outstanding bowls.
The third match saw Steve Bowerman, Leonie Snell, Tony Grey and Geoff Venables run into some tight opposition and lost 13-29. On aggregate, Tura Beach won 66-57
On Sunday, February 18, Cooma travelled to Jindabyne to play on the new synthetic surface for the first time.
The Jindabyne bowlers came to play and on their home turf, Tura Beach played well.
Rink 2: For Jindabyne, G. Isle, H. Stonehr, N. Hind and D. Turner were too consistent for D. Buckley, M. Mayhew, P. Cannell, and J. Schoon. The Jindabyne scores included 2 counts of five shots and an 8 that made for a big win 44-8.
On rink 3, P. Marciano, M. Butler, Don Menchin and Mark Buckley had a bowl for bowl game until the middle stages against R. Burns, P. Bradshaw, J. Cummins and S. Rigg then the Jindabinians played solid bowls to open up a margin and go on and win 25-15.
On rink 1, Cooma’s best side of L. Snell, P. Hunter, T. Grey and G. Venables was the only Cooma team to win. They had a strong game against K. Jones, Jarnes, D. Burns and D. Pasro. The scores were 'neck and neck' until late in the game. On the last end Cooma scored two shots and won 20-14. Overall Jindabyne won 83-43, which was a consistent and convincing performance. Cooma travel to Bega next Sunday for round 3.
