The south east’s top junior golfers will take to the Cooma Golf Club this weekend for one of most important events the Club holds.
The Charlie Beaumont Memorial Junior Golf Open will again attract the best juniors in the region, each eager to claim the prized open.
The event is named after one of the club’s legends in Charlie Beaumont. The open is organised by his son in law Marcus and over the years has featured grandchildren hunter, Ayla and Finn.
Hunter will be out to win the open this Sunday, his final year he is eligible to compete.
The event is an 18-hole competition with prizes for two divisions. For the youngsters, a modified six-hole course will be in action. A 9.30am shotgun start.
The South East Regional Sports Academy will bring its golfers along to compete. The open has helped promote and grow junior golf in Cooma and across the south east.
Kortni Houston from Gungahlin Lakes Club won the Charlie Beaumont Memorial Junior Open in 2025 after a thrilling play off with Blake Jones from Royal Canberra Golf Club.
Both golfers finished their round with one over par, forcing a play off on the 18th hole.
Kortni managed to sink her par putt for the win. Both Kortni and Blake have bright golfing futures ahead of them.
As well as winning the junior open, Kortni also set a course record for the red women's course. Kortni shot 74, two shots clear of the club’s previous course record, set many years ago.
“Well done to Marcus Caldwell and the Beaumont family for organising the junior open along with all the volunteers who will help make the day a success,” Cooma Golf Club secretary, Angela Andrews, said.
“We'd also like to thank South East Sports Academy for once again supporting our event."
