The weekend’s action at the Cooma Golf Club was arguably the busiest of the year with the final round of the club championships and the Charlie Beaumont Memorial Junior Open taking place
In the club championship, Tom Stewart secured the title of 2025 men’s club champion with a final score of +7, finishing ahead of James Ewart on +14 and Phil Ingram on +17. Peter Devereux and Sean Smith rounded out the top five.
In the ladies, Claire Caldwell emerged as the ladies champion with a score of +71, edging out both Gaye Wilson and Helen Crawford, who were tied behind her on +75.
In the veterans division Peter Devereux claimed the overall victory with +21. Sean Bradshaw and David Stewart both finished on +27. B Grade was tightly contested, with Gino Cerro finishing first on +35 after a countback against Chris Brown. Tim Young took third spot with +37.
Closing out the results, C Grade saw Nate Quodling take the win with +64, followed by Frank McKnight on +81.
In the Saturday stroke competition, Emily Stewart was the overall winner with a score of 66 nett, while Mark Rainsford secured the A Grade win with 68 nett. Tim Bedingfield was the B Grade winner, posting 71 nett on a countback, and Jenny Rainsford won C Grade with 67 nett.
Nearest the pin prizes went to Shannon Fergusson (fourth), Kenneth McGrath (ninth), Tim Young (11), and David Stewart (17). Place-getters were Nate Quodling, Donna Smith, Kerry Blencowe, Phil Ingram, Claire Caldwell, Peter Devereux, Neil Mackenzie, Gino Cerro, and Tim Young.
Earlier in the week, the midweek medal took place with Wayne Flynn claiming the overall win with a strong score of 70 nett. Peter Devereux took out the A Grade with 73 nett, Helen Crawford was the top B Grade golfer with 72 nett, and Gaye Wilson won C Grade with 73 nett.
Mark Rainsford and Claire Caldwell secured nearest to the pin for hole nine and 17. Place-getters on the day were Phil Amey, Shannon Fergusson, Mark Rainsford, and Steven Wheatley.
On Sunday, the Charlie Beaumont Memorial Junior Open was held with 21 juniors taking to the course to compete for the title.
Alex Booth from Catalina Country Club took out the Junior Open title with 77 gross, narrowly edging out local Hunter Caldwell by one sho
In the gross event, Hunter Caldwell won in Grade A with a round of 78, and Nate Quodling finished on 83 to claim first place in Grade B. Felix Bertossi, Tessa Colquhoun, Robert Thompson, Will Maciver, Jasper Schryver, and Emma Peard were all place-getters on the day.
Amir Rezaie, Aaron Fenton, and Poppy-Rose Summerrell secured the long drive wins in their divisions while nearest to the pin went to Amir Rezaie (four), Emma Peard (nine), and Aiden Woo (11).
