The Cooma Ex-Services Club has officially started a major re-development project aimed at expanding the venue and renewing its facilities for members and the wider community.
The project is expected to take approximately 15 months, with completion scheduled for April 2027.
Cooma Ex-Services Club CEO, Kade Morrell, said the first stage of works focuses on an extension to the rear of the club, creating significantly larger dining and lounge areas.
“The re-development will include a new kitchen, café, family dining space with a dedicated children’s play area, and upgraded bar service areas,” Mr Morrell said. The lower level will house a new cellar and expanded storage facilities to support the club’s increased capacity.
Access to the club will also be improved, including a new covered, level pick-up and drop-off area at the rear entrance.
“This will allow patrons to enter the building directly and comfortably.”
Mr Morrell said the re-development was a necessary step to meet growing demand.
“The club has outgrown its current building, and the ageing facilities were no longer able to maintain the level of service our members expect,” he said.
“This re-development marks an exciting new chapter for the club, our staff, and most importantly our members, who will all benefit from a modern, expanded facility.”
The project’s principal contractor is Meridian Construction Services, who completed the club’s previous renovations in 2012 and 2017. Bruce Geach has been retained as site foreman.
Mr Morrell added a number of sub-contractors from Cooma and surrounding regions will be engaged throughout the project, providing a welcome boost to the local economy.
While some disruption is expected during construction, the club will remain open and trading as normal.
“We apologise for any inconvenience to our members, neighbours, and the broader community during this time,” Mr Morrell said.
“However, we are confident the end result will be a far better venue for everyone to enjoy with friends and family for many years to come.”
While works are undertaken on the extension of the building and old car park a temporary car park has been established in the vacant block the club owns on Murray Lane.
