The two last exhibitions for the year at the Raglan Gallery in Cooma start on Wednesday, 26 November.
The Mitchell Gallery will host ‘Drawing the Future’. What does the future look like through the eyes of a child? This vibrant collection of drawings by primary school students from across the Snowy Monaro celebrate big dreams, small details and rural pride of young people. The children imagined their jobs, families, homes, pets and more and put it all down on paper.
The public opening event is on Friday, 28 November from 5.30pm.
A panel of student artists will speak and local curator, PhD student Han Worsley, will chat about the power of listening to children.
The other exhibition, in the Tillers Gallery, is tantalisingly titled ‘When Love Comes to Town’. This is a tribute to Cooma by artists, Kate Litchfield and Alex Weare, and highly skilled beeswax artist, Verity Roberts.
Like the song (by U2), this show speaks of redemption, transformation and the life-changing power of love. Each artist brings their unique experience of these core elements to the works. Mentioned in their artist statement is forgiveness and hope. Their colourful pieces and collective experiences will certainly give viewers reasons to love this town.
The official opening event is on Saturday, 29 November between 3pm and 5pm.
All are welcome to meet the artists, share refreshments and take in the visuals.
If you want to show your love to family and friends, the Raglan has a fully stocked gift shop with Christmas cards and hand-made goods. There is even a section of art supplies that will suit children, or anyone keen to make their own art.
Gallery hours are from 10:30am to 3:30pm Wednesday to Sunday at 9-11 Lambie Street, Cooma.
