Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s (SMRC) new chief executive officer Noreen Vu started in the role last week.
Ms Vu replaced interim CEO, Stephen Dunshea, who filled the role for nine months following the resignation of David Hogan in October 2024.
Ms Vu’s first week saw her visit council depot sites in Cooma, Jindabyne and Bombala, as well as presiding over her first council meeting.
“It’s a real privilege to be joining council here in the Snowy Monaro, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the people and places that have made this region so well-renowned across Australia,” Ms Vu said.
“In my first week here, I’m busy hitting the road to meet the hard-working teams at our depots, facilities and offices across the region. With so much exciting and important work ahead of us, I want our people to know that I’ll be working closely with them to deliver our community’s priorities over the coming months and years.”
Ms Vu arrived in the Snowy Monaro following her tenure as head of Weddin Shire Council in the NSW central west. Weddin Shire Council has 3,700 residents in its local government area.
Snowy Monaro mayor, Chris Hanna, welcomed Ms Vu into the top job and said he looks forward to working closely with her.
“Ms Vu’s demonstrated commitment to local grassroots engagement, connecting with community members face-to-face and focus on working with local people on the decisions that affect them was a key factor in her appointment to the role,” Cr Hanna said.
“There’s plenty of work ahead of us. Ms Vu brings the experience and skills to provide the leadership we need as we continue to plan and deliver the projects and strategies the Snowy Monaro needs right now and for the future to come.”
Ms Vu has worked across all levels of government in areas of strategy, policy and asset management.
