Cooma golfers out in force

The final monthly medal of 2025 was held on Saturday with 43 golfers taking to the course. Maxx Povey produced an impressive nett score of 60, marking him the overall winner for the day. He also secured both the medal of medals title. In A grade, Sean Smith topped the grade with a score of 67 nett, the B grade winner was Phil Amey, finishing with a nett 69 on a countback. The C Grade winner on a countback was Marty Janota with a nett score 70. Place-getters were Nate Quodling, David Douglass, Claire Caldwell, Donna Smith, Tony Clarke, Kerry Blencowe, Jenny Rainsford, Hamish Hull and Jamie Stevenson. Nearest the pin prizes went to Wayne Flynn on the ninth hole, and Tim Young 17. The monthly medal also featured the long drive competition, sponsored by Burke's Plant Hire. In A Grade, Phil Ingram took out the long drive, while Wayne Flynn claimed the honours in B Grade. Marty Janota was the winner for C Grade, and Emily Stewart was the long drive winner for the Ladies. The Wednesday stableford saw Helen Crawford claim the overall prize with a solid 43 points. The A grade winner was Steven Wheatley with 38 points, B grade was won by John Harris with a score of 40, and Claire Caldwell secured C grade with 38 points. Place-getters were Brian Johnson, Kenneth McGrath, Garry Cornish, Mark Rainsford, Frank McKnight, Harry Mould, Wayne Flynn, and David Stewart. Nearest the pin prizes on the day went to Mark Rainsford on the ninth hole and Colin Langdon on 17. In the twilight ambrose competitions, the pairing of Craig Scholfield and David Bracher took home the win with 30.5 points. Nate Quodling and Chris Sparsis, and Terry Schofield and Peter Ewart rounded off the top three. The twilight ambrose competitions continues to the end of December. This Saturday is the Cooma Golf Club's presentation day including the captain vs president cup and ham hit-out. The day begins at 9am with a shotgun start and is followed by the presentation of awards. On Sunday, the club will host the final ladies chip and sip of the year.
