The Jindabyne Lions Club’s popular Easter Art Show will go ahead in 2026 after the organisation secured a Boco Rock Community Enhancement fund grant.
There were concerns the show, one of the region’s largest events over the Easter weekend, would be cancelled due to the costs of hiring the council-run Jindabyne Memorial Hall.
“Without this grant the show could not go ahead as the memorial hall fees for the period needed for art drop off, hanging, judging and the exhibition is financially prohibitive for our small club,” a Jindabyne Lions Club Art Show committee member, Nira Windeatt, said.
“A huge thank you to Snowy Monaro Regional Council and the Boco Rock grants program for including Jindabyne Lions Club Easter Art Show in the successful candidates in the recent community enhancement fund round.”
The funding is administered by council with the money coming through the Boco Rock Wind Farm.
The art show has been running for close to 40 years and brings hundreds through the memorial hall doors.
“Our small but very hardworking volunteer art show committee and helpers work on a shoestring budget to keep costs low and make the show available to those of all ages and levels of expertise,” Mrs Windeatt said.
Last year, more than 300 pieces of art and photography were exhibited. The show caters for experienced artists and those making their first foray into the world of public art display.
All work must be new and not exhibited at this show before, so there is always something new to see.
“We see this as a true community event. The committee and volunteer helpers set up the hall for the display, take delivery of the artwork, classify and hang the pieces and judge the categories,” Mrs Windeatt said.
“The catalogue is printed locally, the CWA ladies cater for the opening night, The LJ Hotel runs the bar, and local entertainers perform on opening night,” Mrs Windeatt said.
“We would love anyone who is interested in helping in any of these areas to contact us. It is a big undertaking for our small club each year and any help we can get lightens the load.”
The entry form for 2026 and full details will be on the Jindabyne Lions web page soon.
With the Lake Light Sculpture back up and running over the Easter break, the town is looking forward to a busy four days.
