Rural Fire Service (RFS) district manager for the Snowy Monaro, Superintendent Jim Darrant, has been awarded the National Medal and 1st Clasp, recognising 35 years of service.
Supt Darrant was presented with his medal on Friday, 14 November, by NSW RFS Commissioner Trent Curtain.
The citation at the ceremony detailed Supt Darrant’s leadership skills throughout his RFS career.
“With 34 years of unwavering dedication, Superintendent James (Jim) Darrant has been a pillar of stability, leadership, and integrity within the NSW RFS,” the citation read.
“From his early work with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, beginning in 1987, to the commencement of his professional career with the RFS on 7 January 2008, Jim’s influence has guided the organisation’s operational readiness and supported its evolving role in community protection. Over the years, Jim’s contributions have extended well beyond the administrative and operational demands of his position.
“Jim continually exemplified exceptional leadership in emergency response, serving as a Level 3 Incident Controller during some of the state’s most significant fire incidents in 2009, 2013, 2019/2020, and 2023. His unwavering focus on the safety and well-being of RFS members and the broader community is evident in every aspect of his work.
“Supt Darrant’s exemplary leadership, enduring contributions, and steadfast dedication make him a truly deserving recipient of the National Medal and 1st Clasp.”
