The Snowy Monaro local government area has to date been spared of little bush fire activity this season, but with fires burning in other areas across the state, the Snowy Monaro Rural Fire Service (RFS) is warning residents not be complacent as the fire danger risk is high within the region.
“Conditions continue to remain dry,” Snowy Monaro District RFS inspector, Langdon Gould, said.
“These dry conditions are being impacted by continual strong and drying winds, which are keeping the landscape very dry.
“If a fire does start, these strong prevailing winds will make it very difficult to control, so we need to stay alert and be aware of any high fire danger conditions.”
Inspector Gould has reminded residents of the Snowy Monaro to heed any fire danger warnings and bans which may be in effect, such as an extreme fire danger, or a total fire ban.
Inspector Gould recommends locals keep up-to-date with fire safety and advice, especially if there is a fire in the area.

Have a plan. Review your Bush Fire Survival Plan and take action if conditions worsen; be aware of smoke and road closures; expect smoke and be prepared for potential road closures, especially in fire-affected areas.
